Head lice can live on a human’s head for as long as 30 days. The female louse lays 3 eggs a day until she has completed laying a total of 90 eggs.

The eggs which are called nits, hatches in about a week. After 15 days, these nits become a mature louse which can be capable of laying eggs on the human head. Therefore, the moment you found out that you have head lice do all means to remove them as they tend to spread quickly.

There are head lice treatment shampoos that are no longer 100% effective specifically those that contain Pediculicides; however, there are plenty of other products in the market that are very effective. On the other hand, if you still would want to try Pediculicides, follow the instructions on the label strictly.

Aside from Pediculicides, lice sprays containing Pyrethrin are also found non-effective in eliminating head lice. Also, products containing Lindane are banned from specific countries as they are found to be a neurotoxin which can seriously harm humans.

Be sensitive. The moment you found out that your kid is infested with hair lice, inform the school about it and the parents of child playmates so that they can take precautionary measures to prevent the infestation from spreading with other kids.
