Head Lice Infestation

Head lice infestation can be caused by just one child. If you’re used to working with children, you’ll know that one child is all it takes to have an infestation. One child with head parasite is enough to create an epidemic that could have the whole class scratching heads. It would be the responsibility of adults to control this type of situation and make sure that the head lice infestation of one does not unnecessarily transmit to the others.

The potential of that single individual who catches it and then takes it home to the other members of the family is just too big to ignore.

Imagine if that person has siblings that belong to other classes. You could be looking to for a whole school infestation if you lose control. As with anything, the identification of infestation is the primary key to gaining control over a head lice outbreak.

With the many developments in science that we have in our day, control of head lice infestation is not exactly what you call rocket science. There are many treatment options available today, although for children, the best treatment remains lice-removing shampoos as opposed to using chemicals or even medicines that contains Lindane which has side-effects that is harmful to children and in some instances have resulted to death.

For adults, medications containing the active ingredient permethrin have been proven very effective although adjudged overkill for children. There are other medications available and consulting with your health professional coupled with judicious discretion would best lead you to the most effective treatment in your case.

The occurrence can be minimized with the awareness that it is passed on mainly through head to head contact although sharing hair brush, comb, cap, pillow or even clothes with an infested individual has also been known to cause spread of head lice. Obviously, this is faster spread among children due to their natural tendency to sharing as well as close proximity to one another particularly between siblings in a family.

In adults, head lice infestation may be mistaken for dandruff because of itchy scalp, although head lice may not be as common among adults as it is among children. Head lice may be a nuisance at best, and could prove to be embarrassing.

Head lice infestation maybe a dreadful occurrence but it is not hard to control and with just common sense, it could easily be prevented, too.
