Treating head lice is not really all that complicated. There are plenty of head lice treatment options that are available for children as well as adults. However, you need to exercise caution as a number of treatment alternatives are not only less effective, they can also bring upon you side effects that might be even worse than having head lice.

A lot of care should be taken when choosing medication or treatment for children’s head lice. Just because mom and dad easily got themselves this over-the-counter medication doesn’t exactly mean that it would be best for junior, too.
Children’s head lice are best treated with only an anti-lice shampoo rather than any medication you may get excited about. However, for more effective treatment, it may be necessary to repeat application of the shampoo after 8 days as the shampoo almost always eliminates only the adult lice and not the nits that may hatch soon after the first treatment.
Treating head lice among adults is fairly straightforward. Adults rarely get head lice… unlike children who have the natural tendency to be in close proximity to their friends and siblings. Adults too don’t usually have the habit of sharing combs, hair brush, caps or pillows. So, they don’t usually get infested with head lice by this transmission route.
Many medication containing permethrin have proven effective for head lice treatment. In most instances, you would need only one dose for effective treatment. There are also other medications that are only available with a prescription and for these; you will need to consult your doctor.
Treating head lice can be tough but there are many options. Be wise and to select the ones which seem to offer you the most effective and most affordable solution to get rid of the parasite.
